Meet Jamel Holley, Former Mayor of Roselle

No one has pushed for the Mind & Body Complex harder than Jamel Holley, not even any of the big donors who stand to make millions on the project. We will let his own statements speak for themselves:

  • In October of 2013 when the project was introduced, the average expected tax increase per home Holley quoted was $149.12.
  • In August of 2016 when the Freeholders had to vote to guaranty the $59 million of bonds for the project, Holley quoted the average tax increase as $312, more than double his original figure.

  • In May of 2017, he actually claimed this project will not raise taxes at all and that it is simply a complex redirection of funds.

  • He continues to say Roselle pays over $1 million annually to rent space in St. Joe’s and Shim’s Academy, although the actual rents only total just over $578,000.

With political mentors like the disgraced Neil Cohen and Uncle Ray Lesniak, none of this should come as a surprise. Even the “groundbreaking” was nothing but a taxpayer funded photo op of everyone making money on the Mind & Body project, complete with a prop backhoe and golden shovels. We already met the Devanneys and Nettas, but the developer Robert D’Anton is making more than anyone. He gets a 10% fee totaling over $5.3 million. It is now six months later and no ground has actually been broken, there still is no business plan with operational costs, and the sloppy paperwork underlying the project has finally started being exposed.

 Look at Holley and his cronies getting ready to dig Roselle residents into a financial hole we will not be able to recover from.
